Yes, But It Depends on Your Policy
Generally, your insurance covers accident body damage. Here are the important details.
Coverage Types
Collision Coverage
Covers your vehicle damage in an accident. Deductible: Usually $250-$1,000.
Comprehensive Coverage
Covers non-collision damage (vandalism, falling objects, flooding). Does not cover normal wear or sun damage.
Liability
Covers the other vehicle if you’re at fault. Does not cover your own damage.
Claim Process
- Report the accident to your insurer
- Get your claim number
- Choose your body shop (your right)
- Get an estimate from the shop
- Shop sends estimate to insurer
- Insurer approves (may send adjuster)
- Repairs begin
- Pay your deductible at pickup
Your Rights
- Right to choose your shop — insurer can recommend, not require
- Right to quality repairs — not obligated to accept used parts
- Right to supplements — additional damage found during repair
